Lol, I dunno if I like the name Satan because of the whole bad reputation snakes get with him :/ Since he supposedly appeared to Adam and Eve as a serpent and now everyone thinks snakes are evil and whatnot. Idiots.

Especially Satan for a female :O

Nikki, thats a Kenyan Sand Boa. A beautiful lookin one too!!

TylerAlmighty
11-12-2009, 11:04 PM
lol He's a kenyan sand boa. They normally only get 3-4 feet as adults. And hes camera shy, i can never get a pic of him without him burying his face into my fingers. The camera did good justice on his colors on this one, hes a yellow-ish orange i suppose heh. Heres his feeding vid i just made today

Poor mousy. I don't think it even felt that bite, did it? :P

TylerAlmighty
11-12-2009, 11:32 PM
I dont think so either, i think the mouse was more like "wtf?" about it at first lol. His first live pinky he struck it fast and double coiled it, but he might have been nervouse becaus he just shed and hes 4 days late for feeding..?

11-13-2009, 12:19 AM
Tyler,
hes cute, what is his name? is this a beginner snake or no? i watched the video, and the mistake he made was biting the mice on the butt.. but that just what i saw..
Nikki

11-13-2009, 12:54 AM
They are good beginner snakes Nikki. No, he didn't make a mistake in eating the mouse. The only mistake he could have made would have been to try to eat it belly first. My snakes try that sometimes.

DodoBird27
11-13-2009, 01:17 AM
Lol PJ has eaten one belly first before xD He totally bent the poor thing in half, I didn't think it would fit down his throat!
KSBs are good beginnger snakes, but they can be nippy sometimes.

Good Vid, good lighting and a very pretty snake.....but come on, there's no reason for you to feed it live rodents. It's getting to the point now that the RSPCA are actually prosecuting some people who feed live vertebrate food items to snakes.

Do the right thing and switch to frozen or at least prekill the mouse first, there's no reason for it to suffer like that.

Also newly proven, frozen is better for the snake....because freezing the mouse/rat/gerbil kills almost all parasites in the food item.

Its a he, and he is 3 months old ive had him for one month. He is 9 inches long so far, has never even thought about striking me, fun to handle. Best of all, he was cheap ;)

I don't think Koda is a normal. I think he's a flame kenyan. I saw some at the show today. They're yellow like that.

TylerAlmighty
11-16-2009, 11:05 PM
Very possible.

Oh yeah and raptor, koda just wont eat F/T. Ill try pre-killing this weekend, but how should i do it? sounds like a brutal buisness o_O

raptor667
11-16-2009, 11:28 PM
Tyler...slide your fingers around the neck of the mouse with one hand and make sure you can feel the bones in the skull and jaw. the grip the body with the other hand and give it a sharp tug with both hands and you should hear a crack as the neck breaks.

Or whack it over the back of the head with the handle of a screwdriver. Depending on how hard and where you hit it will determine that it's either brained of stunned.

Hopefully once you have changed over to prekilled you should have no probs going to frozen.

It doesn't take much to kill a rodent. I used to hit them in the head with some blunt object, but that can get bloody. Now I just hold them by the tail and slam them up against the walll, depending on how hard they hit, it will either stun them, knock them out, or kill them. I'm sure there are easier methods, but that's just what I do. My boa is spoiled and I hand feed her, so I try to avoid the mess of blood shed if I can.

Lucid_Existence
11-16-2009, 11:39 PM
Yeah, I can't break their necks with my hands...
I wear thick leather gloves, and even so, I have a hard time holding them by the tail... Disgusting little creatures! And usually by the time I get them home and the snakes ready to eat, the damn vermin have already poo'd and urinated all over themselves.

TylerAlmighty
11-17-2009, 12:56 AM
I dont think i could kill a pinky with any of those methods... I cant even kill a worm...

I think il just try F/T again and maybe thaw it out in a hot cup of water with chicken ramen noodle flavoring. i heard that works sometimes...

Lol, they all have different personalities Mika. My two are night and day. In the cage my female is way active, and out with me she just sits there. My male just sits there in the cage and when he's out he's super active! Lol! He'll be more comfortable with you when you're more comfortable with him though. Animals seem to sense that stuff somehow ..... :/ Even when you're not aware of it yourself.

Marley is doing alright, the only thing is he has not defecated since i have had him... i last fed him 4 weeks ago and have been holding off not knowing if i should wait. i am trying warm soaks to see how that goes. i am guessing i will need to feed him regardless by the end of the week... but other than that he is still active :)

lovesnuffles

Try soaking him. Merlot only goes when he soaks. Luke warm water.

Mika85
06-15-2010, 04:54 PM
thanks snuffles that is what i am trying... hopefully he will go soon, how long should i wait until it becomes a problem? and should i feed him before he goes? i know they can go awhile without eating but i hate that its been 4 weeks already..

DodoBird27
06-16-2010, 12:41 AM
I say go ahead and feed him one more time, then stop until he goes. Sometimes my snake doesn't go after every feeding either.
Feel around at the base of his tail first and make sure you don't feel any lumps, that would be impaction. I doubt he has it, but anything can happen.

Mika85
06-16-2010, 02:27 AM
thanks! i think ill feed him this week and see how it goes. i know the mouse i fed him was a little small so thought that may be have been the problem.

It's some big weird plant thing that's growing in our front yard and Bill is coiled around this big freaky looking flower it's producing. I'm sorry, my botany skills are poor,:( I found it in the bushland behind my house.

Here's the goss on this weird plant :DOk, my wife Tara just checked out what this weird plat is about. It is called an Agave or a Century plant. Apparently the Mexicans use it to make Tequila?????? what it's doing in my Australian front yard I don't know, but apparently that flower is really spectacular when it blooms and it takes so much energy for it to support the flowering process that the plant itself dies after it blooms.

It was love at first sight! I can't believe they are so tiny... Apollo's head is barely the size of my fingernail and Apophis is smaller. They are so funny. I could spend hours just watching them explore. I think Apollo is a lavamel and Apophis is a fire morph... not sure though. Any insight would be appreciated..

lovesnuffles
09-29-2011, 07:01 PM
Apollo kinda looks like a creamsicle to me and Apophis like an Amelanistic. But corn snake morphs are so many and many of them look so much alike that it's REALLY hard to tell what morph any corn snake is anymore.
